Yo, do you like to write?
Do ideas flow from your brain through your body and out your fingers? Can you write up a storm but have a hard time getting in your zone? Is it tough to sit down and write, but once you get in the flow it’s easy, it’s just finding that flow that’s the problem?
Well then shout AH YES!! Because this is the blog for you!
Here’s How It Is:
Often I find it hard to sit myself down and knock out a few paragraphs or sometimes even sentences, especially when I’m on vacation.
I know that once I start I’ll get into it, but sometimes it’s HARD.
Annoyingly hard.
In this blog are some things I use to get the writing vibes. I hope they help.
#1
Find Your Space and Setting (your nook)
What helps me get in a mood for writing is having an area (or two) that I prefer to write in. For me, at the moment, it’s my desk.
I like my desk because it’s placed in front of my window so I can look out at the world. I have my light up rainbow keyboard (awesome, right!), my red swivel chair, and I’m in my spot! I like to turn my lamp on and use that as my lighting (night or day). It makes my room feel bigger, more like my personal office (which it is, it’s also my art studio, library, and school room).
#2
Find Your Drink (preferably hot)
It might just be me, but it feels nice to sit down and write with a steaming cup of something.
It makes me feel all professional as I pretend that I know what I’m doing with my book.
It’s also soothing (for me anyway). If you like this idea: try it out, you can use a cold beverage too. I just prefer hot for these things. I’m not a coffee drinker or a tea sipper, so I settled on hot chocolate (yum) and the occasional hot apple cider.
Side note: be careful with your drink, liquid and computers/paper DO NOT MIX, so be responsible when you drink.
#3
Find Your Noise (or lack thereof)
The sounds around you can do a great deal to affect your writing vibes. Whether you like total silence, or you need a steady chatter in the background to keep you focused, if you want to feel epic while writing go listen to movie soundtracks, it’s AMAZING!
I also like to use this website called: Ambient Mixer , it’s an awesome site where you can find audio landscapes for literally anything or anywhere!
Like: sunset by the beach, Ravenclaw’s common room, fantasy sewers, or pirate taverns, the options are endless! You may be the person who needs quiet but can’t get any (Louise feels your pain). For this I prescribe headphones or earbuds, it may not silence the noise but it’ll muffle it and give you the feeling of wonderful solitude.
#4
Quirks Are Allowed (you’re already weird, embrace it!)
Whether you have a special hat (like Louise does), or you’re like me and you wear your headphones even when there isn’t anything playing in them, writing quirks are allowed.
Go ahead, take your lightsaber to act out a duel in your mind!
Lie on the floor monologuing that death scene!
Wear your shirt inside out!
Have fun! (But don’t do something too extreme, I don’t want you or anyone else to get hurt).
#5
Timer (No Pressure)
If you’re reading this blog, it means you have some form of technology. And most technology has a timer application. Use it! (Or find one of those kitchen timer things, whatever you want.)
Do not fear the timer!
Let me explain.
One thing that helps me write is setting a timer, during which I will only write and not leave my chair. I do twenty minutes because it makes me feel good when I’ve found my writing mood and am interrupted by the timer; which makes me press the reset button for another twenty minutes. Setting a timer really works for me, I would recommend setting your timer to either ten or twenty minutes. When your timer goes off you can either keep going, stop, or take a break.
Your choice.
Remember that the timer is like that good friend who helps even if it’s hard for you.
#6
Get Comfy (I mean it!)
I can’t write well unless I’m comfortable. By comfortable I mean not in an uncomfortable position.
For this reason I can’t write in the car, which sucks with all the road trips I take (If you can write while driving, then congratulations!)
When writing you need to feel comfortable (unless that’s not your thing or whatever). If you aren’t it may be hard to focus on your writings. So don’t be ashamed about getting comfy while writing.
I hope these tips have helped you in your quest for them writing vibes. If you have any of your own tips, comment down below for all to see. I’m Sarah Twilight and I hope this blog has been helpful, I’m now signing out.
Bye!
